Committees & Councils

Builders Ball Committee

The Builders Ball is the HBA's annual installation & awards banquet held in early December. Approximately 250 members attend this black-tie optional event. The Builders Ball serves as the welcome to the incoming HBA president and board of directors, thank those that served in the previous year and present recognition awards. Volunteers help plan the event, procure sponsorships and assist the day of the event.  The Builders Ball Committee begins meeting in July/August. 

Building Green Council
Chair: Mike Arnett, Lifestyle Homes

The Building Green Council’s goal is to help home building professionals better understand and more effectively use sustainable building practices as well as to promote the value of green building to the home buying public. The council provides educational opportunities, promotes green building practices, identifies barriers to green building, addresses concerns from the building community and increases the public’s understanding of green building through a variety of programs. BGC membership costs $75. They meet the second Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. For more information, click here!

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee advises the HBA on communication with the public and media, and on the communication to the membership. The committee provides guidance on the HBA website, specialty publications like the Street of Dreams magazine and Remodel Portland  magazine, the HBA newspaper Home Building News, as well as public relations and advertising efforts to promote the association. The committee meets the second Thursday of the month at 1:30 p.m. at the HBA.

Education Committee

Chair: Russ Israelov

The Education Committee identifies educational needs and provides education opportunities for the membership and home building constituents. Committee members plan seminars, workshops, meetings, as well as CPR/First Aid classes and building code update classes.

Foundation Benefit Dinner & Auction Committee

The Home Builders Foundation (HBF) annual Benefit Dinner & Auction is held in April. Committee members help solicit items to be donated to the auction, sell tickets and help in coordinating the event.  The 2009 Benefit Dinner & Auction raised more than $75,000 for the HBF. The Benefit Dinner committee meets from December to April. 

Golf Committee

The Golf Committee plans the annual HBA golf tournament held the end of June. Committee members assist in the planning and coordination of the tournament, obtain sponsorships, and assist the day of the tournament. The committee meets on a monthly basis from January to July.

Government Affairs & Legal Action Committee

Chair: John O'Neil, Metropolitan Land Group

The Government Affairs & Legal Action (GALA) Committee receives special briefings on key governmental issues facing the housing industry today and those likely to affect it in the future. It also discusses HBA involvement on legal issues of regional or statewide significance, provides input and direction to HBA's government affairs staff, and makes policy recommendations to the HBA Board of Directors. The committee meets the second Thursday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at the HBA.

Membership Council

The Membership Council focuses on membership development through member recruitment and retention, rewarding membership recruiters, improving member benefits, and providing networking opportunities through dinner meetings and special events. Joining this council will give you the opportunity to make new contacts and build business relationships. Join the movers and shakers who are the lifeline of your association! The council meets the second Thursday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at the HBA. 

A MidSummer Night's Dream Committee

The A Midsummer Night's Dream Committee helps plan the association's charity fundraiser each year, which corresponds with the opening of the NW Natural Street of Dreams. The committee generally meets from December to July.

Political Action Committee

The Political Action Committee (PAC) allows you to become a political insider by getting involved in one of the state's premier business-oriented political organizations. The committee recruits and interviews candidates for local, regional and state offices; develops strategies for successful campaigns and fundraising efforts; helps decide which candidates and ballot measures the HBA will endorse and provide financial assistance to.  

Professional Remodelers Organization

Chair: Mitch Stanley, Stanley Home Renovations

The Professional Remodelers Organization (PRO) is a national award winning council comprised of HBA members who are affiliated or work in the in the remodeling industry. The PRO provides a format for networking and self-promotion and works to promote professionalism in the remodeling industry. The annual membership fee for the PRO is $75 (in addition to the basic HBA membership dues) includes membership in the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodelers Council. Sales & Marketing Council

The Sales & Marketing Council connects people and builds careers through information, education, recognition, and networking.  Whether you're a builder, new home sales or marketing professional, realtor, market researcher, interior designer, advertiser, consultant, or architect, joining the SMC will help keep you and your business growing.  The annual membership fee for the Sales & Marketing Council is $75 (in addition to the basic HBA membership dues), includes membership to the National Sales & Marketing Council (NSMC).  The Sales & Marketing Council Steering Committee plans Council events.
